New MBox user--Questions about RTAS Instruments

Hi - I did some searching throught he threads, but couldn't find specific answers...
I am a new mbox purchaser...love the audio features and would like to find/use some synth pads etc... to the mix.
Just a few questions:
1. I understand that Mbox uses RTAS formats for plug ins and instruments. can I find a free instrument to practice/learn to install with with? Are they hard easy to install? Latency issues?

2. Does the RTAS instrument come up like a plug in insert on an audio track? can I use my Oxygen 8 controller to record MIDI and send to thr RTAS instrument? This seems easy to do in my old windows stuff...but I am not seeing it in PT.

3. Can you reccomend a couple of free and commercial synth/instruments that I might look at?
