Default re-recorded tracks early by 34 samples ?

on a 002r with lynx aurora on the optical I/O clocking PT on the optical option ... buffer 128

i sent through my lynx aurora 16 out channel 8 analog and just returned it back into channel 8 analog and the re-recorded signal is 34 samples early on the timeline ...

if i do the same thing using the digi 002 analog ins and out's the re-recorded signal is 1 sample behind ..

anyone ever see this or can duplicate ... digi how could it be earlier ...

thanks all

john

I don't know how this happens, but I have experienced the exact same thing when re-recording out and back in through my Rosetta 200!

my guess is that the lynx and rosetta are that much faster but how could it be showing up before the playback track in the timeline ...

suspect ..

Digi ?

All converters have a conversion delay. ProTools corrects for the conversion delay in the built-in converters, but doesn't do it for converters on S/PDIF or optical.

If Digidesign wanted to get this right, they'd add an option for measuring and entering the appropriate adjustment number for whatever device you've got connected.

so it ia all or not at all

in other words ... either use the digi converters or the outboard hanging on the optical ports .. but not both at the same time ..

or move regions to match once all is recorded ...

i did red once some advise about using t different sets of converters ... do not hang a stereo pair across the different converters as the timing will be off ...

i am coming from an HD rig and did not get a chance to test with 192 I/O but the ADC works great with the Lynx ... that sems to tell me that th converter speeds must be similar ... but the 002R is slower for sure ..

anyone else have any thoughts opn this ... has anyone recorded with both sets of converters (i am sure there are alot of you) and noticed anything odd with this happening timing wise ?

thank you

john

I'm going to test this, but I want to be sure I'm routing things properly.

You're going out optical ADAT to the Lynx, then analog out of the Lynx to an analog in on the Lynx, correct? Does the track you're routing out have any plug-ins on it? What sample rate are you using?
