MPC2000XL vs. Sequencers
As I reenter the music world after a long hiatus I'm confused with all the choices. Most of my work is midi based so it is from that perspective that I would like to get your opinions. I've thought of getting cubase sx/sl but then there's the situation with Asio. Can I sequence and still track to PTLE without complications? Or another option would be to sequence all my stuff on the MPC and track to PTLE? I realize it's a lot more complicated than my simple question so let me ask this. Those who use MPC why do you prefer this method and how do you bring it over to the LE environment? Same for Cubase/Logic etc? Thanks for your help..

I posted almost the same question just an hour or so before you. Weird that we'd both want to know that at the same time.

Re: MPC2000XL vs. Sequencers
I use the MPC 2000XL and the digi001 and I must say the MPC is the best. I have used Atari and other PC sequencers and none come close to the power of the MPC. The midi is easy and it has two out and in for midi so it’s a real nice and easy to use. I just go out of the digi001 right into the MPC. Then out the MPC to the ASR10 into the Triton down to the Roland990 and so ON

Re: MPC2000XL vs. Sequencers
As a sequencer, strictly, I can't see any advantages of an MPC over PC based sequencing.
With a PC, you're capacity is limited only by disk space not memory. With a PC you can edit on a BIG display instead of a tiny LCD. This is VERY important for any serious editing work. As a sampler, it is only 16 bit. As a drum machine, there are better choices, even softsynths like Battery are far more flexible and powerful. Again, 16 bit? If portability is what you need then maybe you are stuck with MPC, unless you can put your hands on a decent laptop... Shuttle Wheel vs. Keyboard and mouse... I can't stand using wheels to name songs... it's slow and cumbersome.

Re: MPC2000XL vs. Sequencers
Steve's right about editing. If I had to use my MPC to edit I would lose my mind!!! Hitting pads is cool and it gets you into the groove of things but editing stinks.
