Default PTHDcore PCI G4/G5 tiger/leopard SAME PROBLEM!

This one will pickle your brain... I really need some help here...

right let's try to eliminate the obvious questions such as "what plugs are you running"....

same problem whether using a G4 dual 1 GHz (IDE) or a G5 dual 2.5 GHz (SATA)
AND
same problem whether using tiger or leopard
AND
same problem using 2 different PT cables
AND
same problem using different hard drives
AND
same problem using different iloks

PROCESS:

1 - TOTALLY Clean install of tiger
2 - TOTALLY Clean install of Pro Tools HD 7.0

SITUATION: EVERYTHING WORKING!!

3 - Upgrade to Pro Tools HD 7.3 or 7.4 or 7.4.2 (no plug-in updates, no core audio, application files ONLY)

SITUATION: PROTOOLS UNUSABLY SLUGGISH. 2 second delay even opening a pulldown menu with no session open.

SOMEONE MUST HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, and could it really be the Core card, coz remember it works FINE on PTHD 7.0!!!!

I have checked every forum out there! PLEASE HELP if you know what is causing this!

Alwyn

hmm ok i hadn't thought of Elastic Audio...

Could it maybe be due to elastic audio and the fact that both machines re dual processor?

A genuine reward to whoever comes up with the answer to this one...

There are plenty of people running 7.4 on dual G5's, this is definitely not normal. The G4 is definitely going to be too slow, but you should get adequate, though not exceptional performance from the dual 2.5 G5.

Hi,

How many cards and interfaces do you have? this looks like it could be hardware related. as you've done fresh install right? no third party plugins installed yet?

any flex cables between the cards?

Chris

Hey Chris

hd core PCI
1 96 i/o (+legacy 882 but it's off)
fresh installs, no plugs except bundled digirack
no flex cables as this syetm is hd core only

yup, although it passes the digitests with flying colours it does seem like a hardware issue...
