2 Hard disks 2 IDE channels
Hi,i have 2 hard disks(western digital) and i read in an XP magazine that both hard disks should be at the same ide channels.I'll write exactly what they say."If you have 2 hard disks, then these should both be on the primary channel-provided that they operate at similar speeds(the speeds are defined by the ATA rating-ATA66,ATA100,ATA133,and so on).The devices on a channel must run at the same speed because each IDE channel transfers data at the slowest speed of the device on that channel,so if you have your CD-RW drive (oparating at 33MB/s)on the same channel as your hard drive(running at 133MB/s),then the data rate of both devices will be capped at 33MB/s,which is hardly making the most of your PC's perfomance." Now i have both my hard disks at the primary channel and my cd-wr on the secondary. Is this info correct?

Re: 2 Hard disks 2 IDE channels
yes.
Don't forget to set your drives' dip switches to 'master' (the one at the end of the lead) and 'slave'. |
