Phasing problem advice
Hello DUC people,
We are just doing some quick mastering on our mixes and we have the phasescope plugin on the master bus and it says there is a phase issue? it says the phase is to the right/+1 on the plugin phase line. can we do anything this and is it a problem! Stevo |

Re: Phasing problem advice
where is it that you think the indicator should be? and why have you jumped to the conclusion that this is a phase problem?

Most likely something in the "mix" could be a mic on the hi-hat or under snare mic being out of phase with the main snare mic or guitar cab mics being close and not phase flipped etc. or if its not live instruments with mics then it could be some stereo widening plugin or something funky going on with layered samples you may have used in the mix. you could bounce a test tone and then load that into your mastering session and check that, just to eliminate its not a problem with your system or routing, like a cable etc. if a pure tone is showing out of phase then you could have a problem somewhere in your signal path. If it sounds all right then don't worry. Chris

yes, lets just close down all the forums and tell everyone to the read the ....... manuals Well according to the manual then we have a near perfect mono image but we don't the track is very stereo!! Anyway the question was what if anything should we do about it? even now we RTFM the manual gives no information as to whether we should be concerned at all or whether to just close our eyes and forget the meters. There's nothing we can think of in the mix that would cause this. Stevo |

Phase meters are useful for pointing up problems - even more so are lissajous display scopes - but really, an experienced ear needs to be the final arbiter. It sounds to me like you might want to be using an engineer with real-world experience for a while until your engineering chops are better. All the best, rich
