Does PTLE Run better with 2 Hard Disks?
Hey guys, just looking for abit of advice here..
I'm hoping to buy a PowerMac G5 as soon as the 'expected updates' become reality. I'm currently running a PC with 2 HDD, one for Windows (boooooo) and one for Audio. I was wondering if Macs also run PT better if the Audio is on a seperate disk to the Operating System. If so, would you advice an extra internal SATA drive, or an external FireWire drive? I think FireWire might be the best bet as i will need to transfer my files to Uni to check them out in the proper studios. If you can suggest any specific drives that work well, or offer any advice that will help me, that'd b realy great. thanx! |

Re: Does PTLE Run better with 2 Hard Disks?
You definately want to record to a hdd other than your system drive. This is a good idea no matter what platform you're on.
I'd advise an internal SATA drive since they are faster than firewire. Of course this will limit your mobility. Ideally you should get both SATA & FW. Since your files are never really safe unless they are in more than one location I'd recommend getting both and keeping your files backed up on both, work off the SATA & use the FW for mobility and backups. Seagate 7200.8 are great for large storage capacity & reliability. The Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10k SATA drive is the fastest & only 10000rpm SATA drive, but is very $$$$$$$.

Re: Does PTLE Run better with 2 Hard Disks?
cool, sounds good. thanx for your help.
those Seagate Barracuda also get a good report over at MacRumors forums. I think an extra internal disk might be the best bet actualy, cos if i need to take audio to and from Uni, i can just use a DVD RW cos they have PowerMacs there. Its a shame you can't select a smaller HDD to come with your PowerMac, cos i won't need 250gigs of space for my System drive, would rather use that 250 for audio and get a 120 or somthing for the system. Any other suggestions/ideas? |
