Default Routing MIDI from Pro tools to Logic

Hey all

I'm trying to figure out how I can route MIDI from Pro tools MIDI channels to Logic. I already have the IAC (mac) making MTC for syncing Logic to PT. That works fine.

But what if I want to have, say MIDI 1 in Pro Tools sending to MIDI 1 in Logic, MIDI 2 Pro Tools sending to MIDI 2 Logic and so on? No matter what I do, I end up having all notes from all MIDI tracks at the same time.

Another thing regarding PT and Logic. If I'm Looping/cycling something in the Pro tools session, it doesn't loop/cycle in logic. Not even if I make a loop/cycle in logic. Is there a way around this?

Hope any of this makes sense, and somebody have any suggestions.

Cheers from Copenhagen

Logic's default setup is to sum all incoming ports, that's why you are experiencing this problem. In the old days you could create a custom built environment to get around this but I don't know if this is still possible in Logic Pro X. What version of Logic are you using?

With regards to looping as far as I'm aware this is not possible I'm afraid. Unless anyone else knows otherwise, I certainly never found a way of making it work.

Thanks!

My logic is 10.2.0

Perhaps there is a way to make an environment?

I guess you're right ab cycling. I couldn't find anything on the issue myself.

Is that possible? I thought you could only have one?

You can create multiple ports in Audio MIDI Setup.

Yes you can, but it won't help. Like I said, logic sums ALL channels of ALL ports at input by default. I just had a quick look and it seems the environment clicks and ports layer is still the same in Pro X so it can still be done the same way as before. I can build a custom environment for you if you like? I would need you to do the following:

- Run Logic with all of your normal MIDI and audio devices connected and powered on.

- Go to Window>open MIDI Environment

- Where it says 'layer' in the upper left corner of this window click and hold on 'mixer' and select the layer 'clicks and ports'

- Take a screen grab of this layer and post it here or email/PM me with it.

I assume 16 channels would be sufficient for you? If you'd like more that can be done but you'll have to create additional IAC busses first. Let me know and I'll talk you though that.

Thats really kind of you. Thanks!!

What I need is internally routing midi from pro tools (say midi 1-8) to logic 1-8.

Here are some photos.

Cheers
