DI-boxes!
Hi.
I need a DI-box that let's me run my amp into the Mbox 2, and then again be monitored with my KRK RP5's. I thought i had this down, but now i am really confused again. I have been looking at these DI-boxes for my purposes: - Samson S-Direct: http://www.nantelmusique.qc.ca/repos...t/s-direct.jpg - Radial Pro RMP:http://cachepe.samedaymusic.com/medi...75527d2a8a.jpg - Radial Pro DI: http://www.bassemporium.com/images_p...adialprodi.jpg As far as i thought, all of them do the same job as i want them to. Until i read about the Pro RMP. it talks about reversed signals, and correct me if i am wrong, it sends prerecorded music back out so you can put your amp sounds on your recording? I don't get this.. What i need is a DI-box that let's me run my amp into my Mbox 2, and just record.. simple as that really :P |

Re: DI-boxes!
Any DI-box for running a signal to your interface is good.
I have got a this setup: guitar--> Radial JDI -->002R .........................!--> guit amp works like a charm.

Re: DI-boxes!
Right.
DI boxes.. i guess the RMP is a reamp though.. not used for the same thing. Can't record thorugh a reamp, you can only reamp prerecorded tracks. |

Re: DI-boxes!
But what if i buy an active DI-box that requires 48 phantom power,
can i use the 48 phantom power switch on the mbox 2 for this? I find it a bit strange that the guitar signal will run through an XLR cable and into the Mic-input of the mbox 2.. |

Re: DI-boxes!
It's not strange at all, that's what DI's have been designed to do since they were invented. Whether it's an active box or not, it still needs to go through a preamp. Though there are some DI boxes with built in preamps, like the Avalon U5, which can go directly to a line in.

I would take the Radial DI over the Samson if I may ask, what's wrong w/ the DI in (may be labeled Instrument) your Mbox for getting started there are better DIs but for getting started....

Re: DI-boxes!
Well, this could mean a couple different things:
The amp has a recording output (or some kind of preamp output) OR You want to record from the speaker output. We are talking about a guitar amp here presumably? In either case, you don't need a DI. Case 1, the output is already going to be line level... Case 2, you want a device that loads the amp like a speaker, yet outputs line level. (You can actually damage your amp and/or anything you attach it to if you do this incorrectly) Look these up: THD Hotplate Marshall Power Brake
