Default Original MBOX with OSX 10.5.5?

I have done a bit of searching but cant find out if the original Mbox is compatible with OSX 10.5.5? When i google it i get more links for mbox2, and i find the digidesign compatabilty pages confusing and out of date. Have you seen the windows laptop compatibility pages? try and buy one of those these days!
I am using the mbox with my macbook pro with many problems. My biggest problem is that i use many VI's and the lowest buffer rate i can select is 256. There is too much latency there to be acceptable. And when i run the VI's in standalone the Digidesign Core audio manager only allows me to select 512. Is it an MBOX issue?

In short, am i unable to select lower buffer settings because of the MBOX?

PT is not officially qualified for 10.5.5 period - however some have tried without any issues. Always download the combo update as it's safer.

8 will be 10.5.5. qualified as far as I can tell.

There is nothing wrong with the Mbox, regardless of the speed of your mac it's unrealistic to try and run VI's at 256 samples on a USB digi interface IMHO. You may need to consider a firewire interface and even then you may find it buffers out as the load increases.

Cheers

hmmm the plot thickens. My Windows laptop running XP SP2 which scored 50 on the dverb test allows me to choose 128 buffer settings in pro tools and standalone, i find the latency not noticeable. I can run Superior 2.0 with a 1100meg loaded kit, 2 guitar rigs an ampeg and akoustik piano plugin before it starts to struggle. the macbook pro which scored 60 on the dverb test (waste of money imho) struggles with guitar rig and superior. but anyways,
I find it strange that the minimum buffer settings i can choose is 256 in PT on the mac pro and 512 on the core audio manager. However, i just tested superior in PT on the mac with buffer setting of 1024, there was no latency?????? what d f#@k!! that doesnt make sense to me. if i did that in windows the latency would be rediculous. whats going on?

Latency is caused by AD/DA conversion, as your samples are already in the machine and your just triggering them from your controller or timeline you should be ok.

If you were sending in an external drum machine via audio then you would hear 256 samples of latency back through the monitors.

The reason i said 256 samples is unrealistic is because i have an original Mbox and like your finding the VI performance isn't great, i would imagine this is because it complies to USB 1.1. Having firewire helps but Pro Tools just isn't great at handling VI's like other DAW's.

Cheers
