Some plugins are DSP hungry pigs. If your using certain plugs 7 plugs will eat a hole card up. Try using some RTAS plugs with TDM plugs it helps
You should be getting way more tracks though. Start a new session and put as many empty tracks on there as you are allowed and see if it will let you. If it does put some audio on there. What happens now put Plugs on there what happens. How about your system usage and more important prefferences. Preferences are VERY important learning them will really help

Or just buy a magma chassis and fill it up with cards, that's what I'm now doing. At the mo I'm running HD4 and I've got loads of power left, but eventually I'm going to get my rig to be a HD7 bring on the power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
