Default Dual Monitors on Yikes G4?????

I've read all the posts on the problems with running 2 cards on the AGP G4's, but my situation is a little diferent. I have one of the early G4-400's built on the old B&W G3 motherboard design (yikes...yosemite)which has PCI graphics. I want to move up to 2 monitors for my MIX+ system, can I replace the PCI video card with an ix3d dual monitor video card?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Simply becuase this has never been an issue in the past, Digi has never tested or supported any dual monitor configurations for any computers prior to the AGP-equipped G4's. Although I do not know of any monitor cards to recommend, I don't see why using a dual port monitor card will create any more potential problems than using two single port cards.

Caution!

I have a G3, not the G4, but beware that on mine at least the first PCI slot where your stock video card is has a different pin configuration. We bought a dual monitor card that we couldn't use because it doesn't fit in that first slot. Had to get an expansion chassis to make it fit.

Don't know if the setup is identical on the yikes or not.

Thanks AdamFrick,

However your post was a day late...I had already ordered the card, and sure enough, when it arrived the pin configuration was standard PCI, not the proprietary configuration used for the ATI Rage 128 card in the G4. Don't know why Apple calls it a PCI slot, i you can't put a PCI card in it. Oh well, at least the vendor took the card back, so I wasn't stuck with something I couldn't use.

So I guess my question still remains, is there a dual monitor card that will work with the original (yikes) G4. I can't see buying an expansion chasis just to get that capability.

Thanks All,
