Default Random clicks and pops 7.4

After downloading 7.4 i started getting the occasional white noise business that i had read so much about. i would just be playing a track and then, white noise. i looked around and saw that i needed to update my firmware. did that. now im getting random clicks and pops during playback. kinda like vinyl pops... but ,like, digital pops. so basically not good.

this happening to anyone else? thanks.

im running 10.4.9 by the way.

i think im finding that i probably didnt need to even fool with the firmware. perhaps i should never mess with things when i have no idea what they are going to do. so now im curious as to how i get things back to where they were.

they clicks and pops are happening when im in Reason, iTunes... everything now.

anybody?

yes this same thing happend to me too when i uninstalled but i think the problem lies deeper than just a simple uninstall

i 0 filled the hd
reformatted the drive
then reinstalled my os and then reinstalled 7.3 ( i changed the fireware back before 0 fill)

everything seems to work just fine now
or at least till further notice

if this doesn't work i'm considering just sending back to digidesign
unless you have any other ideas?

im not sure i understand what you mean by 0 fill the hd.

how did you downgrade the firmware? i tried to reinstall my 7.0 and there was no firmware installer on that disc... not to mention PT would not even open until i gave up and reinstalled 7.4.

Make sure "RTAS Error Suppression" is unchecked in Setup>Playback Engine>RTAS Engine dialog.

0 filling the hard drive is basically writing zeros to each sector of the drive
as far as i know when you buy a new hd it comes zero filled

the os part is pretty strait forward

as far as the firmware downgrade i simply unistalled everything to do with pt 7.4 installed 7.3 and when i booted 7.3 it asked me if i wanted to rewrite the firmware to the 7.3 version

this may be a mac and pc difference but i doubt it

i'm going to give my system a full recording test today and i will let you know if there are any problems still

my playback problem is definetly gone

hope at least some of this helps
