Default administrator required to run protools?

Hi,

Im currently setting up a lab of 16 g5s with mboxes. As well as protools there are other music-related software packages installed. The lab is for use by students at our college, and therefore i want to have control over user limitations/permissions etc.
However, i've just discovered today that Pro Tools Le (latest) wont run unless you're logged in as an administrator.. there goes the system security! Why is this so? Has anyone worked around this problem or know of a solution?

Yes, the solution is 6.2.3b1 beta update. It lets you run ProTools without being a Sys Admin, and was designed for facilities like yours. You can get it from the LE 6.2.3 download page. We've been trying it for a few weeks now, although there did seem to be some problems with core audio (Reason in particular) but I think that is common to all version of 6.2.3 not just the 3b1 beta.

It's not the 6.2.3 update, you need to download the 6.2.3b1 update.

That's if you want it to work.

Ok, got it working much better now and without admin rights. Had to install 6.2.3 before putting the 6.2.3b1 version on. Reason seems to be happy now (and so am i!).

Thanks for your help!.

Let me know how you get on with Reason, Core Audio and the beta 6.2.3.
It seemed to work for us at the start and then Reason started to quit all the time untill we put it back to playing out through the built in audio.

hi marty,

only just got around to looking at the forum today and saw your post.. we're having the same problem, if you run reason stand alone (using coreaudio driver) it will crash everynow and then, but when you use it with PT through rewire its stable as. Im just hoping this new coreaudio driver release will fix the problem.

I dont suppose you know if the latest LE update supports multi users who are not admin, or do we have to wait for a beta release?
