throw away my used iLok?

I once bought a used iLok off of ebay thinking I should have a backup iLok with a second license of Pro Tools in case I ever loose my main iLok...
I never figured out how to add that iLok to my iLok account (since it shows up as registered to the ebay seller who sold it to me over a year ago). Today I was cleaning up my desk and was wondering whether there is a way to do this or if I just need to throw it away and I wasted my money. Any insights would be great. Thanks

Are there still licenses on it?

The seller should have deactivated it from their account before selling it to you. There may or may not be leftover licenses from the previous user... In any event you can't register it to your account unless its deactivated first.

or, did the seller send you his account login info? In any case, if you can't log onto that account, you can't do much, BUT if there are licenses that you want to use, you can connect it to your computer and use it as you would any iLok(and you can use multiple iLoks on the same system). My partner and I each have one of the other's iLoks on our systems as many plugins allow for 2 licenses
