Default Simple monitoring levels setup question

Hi,
This is a question i have never got around to asking..even tho it would make things easier...
When i track say a singer...is there a way to set up levels with them singing along to the instruments (without having to record enable and do a take??)
Thanks,
Luke K

scottedog hit it. You can also feel free to roll in record for level setting. If you hit Ctrl-Z right after you hit STOP, the new recording is canceled and no audio is kept from that pass(this cannot be undone BTW).

Command-period during recording accomplishes the same thing.

I was under the impression that Command + Z will keep the audio file (though it will disappear from the session and region list it will still be on the hard drive.)

Command + period would make it like it never happened (no file on hard drive, playlist, region list.) We used to have a rule at a studio I used to work at that Command + Period was never allowed during tracking since there was absolutely no way to go back in case a good take was removed while Command+Z was allowed since it'd keep the sessions clean but in case of catastrophe, you could find and reimport the audio file. This was true up to version 6; haven't seen if it works differently in version 7 or 8. (and of course, command period only works while the transport is recording while command + z needs to happen after stopping recording)
