Those are release notes. And there's a Pro Tools blog.

No, they aren't going to announce in advance. Features slip release dates and get skipped when they aren't ready. Anyone remember the Avid VP who mentioned expanded voices for HDX cards? Lot of people still angry about that never showing up. And as a publicly traded company, they could get sued by investors.

Yes, welcome to companies/capitalism.

The US/UK movie audio post industry is slow moving and entrenched. Nothing happens in an instant. Whole chains/subcontractors/departments would have to change. They may stop paying for updates but they won't leave. Our whole industry exists around the sunk cost fallacy.

There's an "Install apps silently" option in Avid Link's preferences that lets you enter your Username & Password once, then click Install for the plug-ins you want in Products > Included Apps & Plug-Ins (that's a link under your Pro Tools product).

I propose that we all contribute to Avid a one time payment of $999 each for their troubles, and we should give them at least till 2028 for the next update--industry is fine with it; we can quantize our multi mic drum recordings.

Furthermore, those on subscriptions should pay a monthly fee equivalent to a car note for, let's say, a Mercedes Benz S550. An industry standard deserves more though. Why should Avid go broke!

This is a very modest proposal indeed.

I personally feel like if you are paying for subscription software that the company should have someone update its users on a somewhat regular basis. It would not be hard to assign someone at the company to update users on whats going on......Like a "state of protools" newsletter or the like.

The company that serves its customers will get the business. Its more than just saying "heres my software, please buy it". We are buying into a marriage with software these days and software companies are being terrible spouses and not communicating with their partners......They only are nice and communicative when they want you to buy something.

Lots of DAWS are creeping in and taking what you used to dominate. You can say all the movie people and etc are using it..... But things can change in an instant in this world as we have experienced.
how hard is it to send an email to paying customers that the software has been updated?

Apparently it's very difficult. Of the *many* plugins I own only a couple send emails of any kind when there are updates. The process of staying updated is still almost entirely manual (even plugins that update automatically often require you to run their app -- there's no message instructing you that updates have been released).

There's an opportunity for someone to wrangle this whole issue into a more communicative network for users. When a developer releases an update, a service of some sort is notified and that service notifies everyone who has subscribed to their service. It could operate via an app, similar to the Assistants that many companies now use.

I HAVE AN IDEA!..... When the person who uploads the new software, that person can alert the "Emailing Dept" and send us a message with a link....... Its that simple, problem solved!...... You can even put the notes in the software download!

We can call this solution "if you upload it, tell the users" solution
