10,000 RPM WD Raptor SATA Drives
Has anyone had experience with the Western Digital Raptor 10,000RPM SATA internal drives?
I've been hitting the limit of Firewire throughput, and I'm looking for a single internal drive that is fast enough to handle 30 tracks at 96k. The Raptors only come up to 74gigs, so I would use my firewire drives and spare partitions on my large system drive for projects that are not currently in work. Thanks, Jonathan Starr |

Me too.
I saw something around here that said SATA were frowned upon for some compatibility reason. Maybe it was my M-Audio equipment though. And Pro Tools doesn't support RAIDs. I guess that leaves SCSI as the only high speed option? |

Re: 10,000 RPM WD Raptor SATA Drives
I do not believe the problem lies in the throughput of firewire. I am using two 7200RPM SATA drives and I am able to get the full trackcount of 32 tracks @ 24/96. I would look at bus speed and CPU before looking at the firewire pipe.

Re: 10,000 RPM WD Raptor SATA Drives
To answer my own query; I got one and the Raptor 10,000RPM SATA is fast and works great in my G5 Dual 2.7 for audio files for PTHD.
