JMS40 yes it matters why! Some of us are on limited budgets, and buying a new computer (or even a new MoBo) is not an option. I love my SiS based machine,(it's rock-solid reliable) and obviously they are fairly common judging by the posts on the DUC. I might be able to scrape together $1500(Cdn price) for the Digi001, but another $1200(Cdn) for another computer would be out of the question!
Simply telling us what the tests did indicate would let us know what to expect. There is a big difference between 'occasional restarts' and 'total system destabilization'. Knowing this would be a heckofa lot better than "buy it and see, just in case".
Sorry about the ranting...

I'm not going to get into the "Do we need to know why?" debate, but I had a thought for this.

Why not just upgrade the motherboard? That doesn't mean you have to buy an entire computer. If you have the HD space, CPU speed, and RAM to handle protools, then spend $70-100 on a new motherboard and use everything else you already have.

Compared to the price of a 001, 80 bucks is nothin really.

Hear, hear! Now there's some good advice!
I agree, just get a new motherboard. Even if you have to pay someone else to do it, you'll be saving money.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yeah - the only problem with that is if you are running on a laptop... (which is one of the big reasons for the MBox - surely)

So - anyone out there with sis boards that work in a laptop?

Cheers

I tested the m-box on my IPC laptop with SIS chipset and there was no problem.
On the second usb I connected the Tascam US 428 as a controller with the audio part enabled.
Also the sound card of the laptop was enabled.
I tested it for about one hour with no problems.

I think recent sis chipsets work fine with protools. Could you let me know if you've got the same chipset as I do?(sis645dx)
My notebook seems to have no conflicts with pro tools soft.....let's hope it stays that way.
