Default DigiPre How Is It?

i was looking to add some more channels into my system. and i kind of remember someone saying that it was a pretty good pre. I understand it is a very Clean Pre. but how would the quality be compared to some of the More expensive boutique type pre's ?

Have you checked the archives, Rob? After its introduction, discussions about the PRE were a regular feature on the DUC for quite some time.

IHTH.

Well, I'm thinking of selling my PRE... Don't like the 3dB steps so much, because i'm doing mainly ADR with it.
So, if your still interested, check my mailadress at www.posta.nl

I bought two PREs when they first came out and love them. They are very clean and uncolored, which works for me since I do such a variety of recording.

Do a search; the PRE has been discussed many times here before.

Just finished mixing a song, the vocal was recorded with it. It sounded very clean with no noticable noise. I am pretty impressed so far.

They had one at a studio I where I was working. We were hearing clicks if you adjusted level on the front while recording. (They're step adjustments, so you'd hear a click with each step). The clicks were recorded in the audio.

They called Digi, who said they knew about the problem, like it happened with earlier units. Digi did repair it for them, but maybe beware used models.

My impression was that it sounded OK--I felt like the buttons on the hardware were kind of plastic and cheap-feeling. The functionality was pretty cool, as was the idea of controlling it all from within PT, which I didn't have a chance to explore.

Comparing it to more "boutique" pres might be a little unfair. The DigiPre has eight inputs (do they sell it anymore? I couldn't find it on the website!), whereas if you devote 2-3K to just one input (like my VoxBox, for example!), you can get some serious tone.
