Default Stereo Panning

Scenario:

1 Stereo Track routed to a 5.1 output
Click the Link button on the Fader window to link Left and Right panners
Move Right hand side panner to far left of it's panner window Left does nothing.
Move Right hand side panner back to the right of it's window Left does nothing.
Move Right hand side panner to bottom of window Left moves with it.

Is this the expected behaviour or should the L/R movements also be mirrored in the Left hand side panner window.

NOTE: All this applies vice versa to the Left hand side window.

Also tried with linking the two <-> buttons as well as the front-back button and all links enabled with no success.

Pro Tools 7.3.1cs2 HD2 Accel (Discovering system)
Pro Tools 7.3.1cs2 HD1 (problem duplication testing system)

Apparently this worked on 7.2 (ie Left/Right actually linked) but does not now work in 7.3.1cs2

Can anyone confirm this is a reproducable problem and not just our systems being strange.

Thanks,

Ceri
PS/ We are using the Surround Mixer rather than the Stereo Mixer

Default UPDATE: Stereo Panning

Setting both pan windows to center before beginning panning means they follow each other.

Default UPDATE: Stereo Panning

I think we were being a bit stupid. Setting the pan windows to exactly the same starting position is essential before applying the channel link. Doing so afterwards causes the panning to mirror the starting difference in any changes made.

ie if you start with hard left and hard right then apply the channel link the left channel will always stay hard left as it cannot go any further left whereas if you start with the right fully right and the left coming out of the center then panning the right to the centre causes the left to go completely left.

Default UPDATE: Stereo Panning

Upon further investigation today (and digging through Preferences) I came upon one under the Mixing tab which is labelled "Use Absolute Pan Linking"

Checking this box meant that the stereo panner behaved in the way in which we expected it to initially.

Problem fixed: Answer? There was no problem
