Mike Damon ...... Yup, I see what you mean ..... thanks. I notice the Focusrite D2 plug (and probably others) allow you to do this as well .... but not the digirack EQ .... which allows you to flop the phase on each side but not independantly adjust the relative voume ... weird?

I too find myself often wanting to change the L/R volume on stereo tracks..

Yes I concur, for software this shophisticated you wonder why there isn't a built in independent relative volume adjustment for Stereo Tracks? You shouldn't have to insert a plug just to do this? Perhaps in the next update (PT's 6.8, 6.9 or 7.0)?

Perhaps I'll suggest it ...... see what happens.

This may be a silly thing coming from an LE guy, but why not have two mono master faders?
...or... Why not simply put each side of the audio on its own mono audio track?
Wouldn't either of these options resolve the issue? You can always copy automation. You can sum the two tracks back on an aux for the common plugins.
...And... of course, there is the Waves S1

SNS ...The options you suggested will of course work.. Some folks just prefer the use of one fader for a stereo track and also prefer one plug (ie: a stereo one) for eq'ing or compression etc., as opposed to using split mono tracks.

I have an aquaintenace that ALWAYS uses a stereo track for overhead drum mics wheras I always use split mono tracks primarily for balance reasons. He likes to EQ and Compress the oveheads with stereo plugs as opposed to copying plugs from one track to another in the split mono example. I kind of oscillate (no pun intended) between the use of stereo tracks vs split mono tracks. It just depends on the application.

I guess it's more a matter of working preference than anything.

The Multimono TRIM plugin does the trick. However you need to stop playback to be able to unlink the channels!

Have you tried this:

It seem to have worked for someone else with a similar question.

In PT 10 it was very easy.
1- I select the stereo clip from the stereo track and copy/paste it on 2 mono tracks.
2- I adjust the gain of one of the 2 mono clips. (eg -6db on the left one)
3- i copy the 2 mono clip (with one has a a -6dB gain) ans paste them on the original stereo tracks

You have changed the balance of the stereo clip. (The left is -6dB on the stereo track)

It was working well on PT 10 and maybe on 11 (i don't remenber)
But in PT 12 it doesn't work anymore. (F...!)

Avid could you make PT 12 to permit again that 2 mono clips with differnents gain could be assembled in a stereo track, please ?

What he said. Unlink L-R and set your balance, then use the fader to control the re-balanced track level. Personally I prefer to trim before additional inserts, but that's your choice.

Pretty old thread, but if you have balance problems, then you need to mix it better. Don't try to fix it later, your problem is in the mix.
