why doesn't "import audio to track" work now?

i just upgraded to XP and the new LE software, but now i can't "import audio to track", or "import track." how can i remedy this?

Give us a little more detail? This works fine on other systems.. so tell us about what you're trying to import.. what format, what was it created with, etc...

Make sure the imported audio is the same bit depth and sample rate as the session.

bit depth and sample rate are the same as the session i'm trying to pull it into- 24,48 wav. it's a crash cymbal sound that is a few seconds long from another ptools session that i copied on to my desktop first. even if it weren't the same bit and sample rate, though, it should tell me i need to 'convert.' in the import screen, when i highlight the sound i'm trying to import, it doesn't even register that i've selected anything. it won't read the audio it's supposed to read. WTF. i tried highlighting a bunch of other stuff too, and it won't recognize.

Make sure the imported audio is the same bit depth and sample rate as the session.

PT will convert on import, but only in formats it supports: wav, aiff and now wma, mp3 (with option) and i'm not sure what else.

Instead of using the desktop.. use a valid audio drive with a constant path.. and tell us what happens.

yeap... It has happened to me. What I do is open the audio file in SoundForge and save it with other name, try to save it without the "extra information" (like markers etc.) .... then try to import it into protools.

yes, is the file name greater than 31 characters? does that limit still exist in PTLE 6.4?

Yes... I believe it's tied into the maximum region name limitation... since the first region name has to be the same as the file name and contain the complete audio region. To change that will require quite a change in the data structure inside Pro Tools.
