Organize sound library
Hi everybody,
So here am I with dozens of Gb of sounds from different sources (BBC series, Sound ideas, sounds I've recorded on the field, ...)? i wonder how I can organize all that. I know I should have a specialized software for that but I don't. How do you guys manage your sound library ? I can't make up my mind on the best way to do it, do you create a folder with all the footsteps sounds for example and you put there the sounds you recorded on the field yourself, the footsteps sounds from the CD series ? Thanks for your help. Pascal

Re: Organize sound library
Well I use Audiofinder from http://www.icedaudio.com/
It´s the best 70$ spend I ever did. I could not live without it anymore. I think it´s a PITA to sort sounddesign stuff and I always try to name my samples according to the way they sound and how they can be put to use. Jusdt a simnple search and you have them all ready to listen to and load in PT or any other DAW with a push of a button. !! take a look at it. You will not regret it |

Re: Organize sound library
I'll have a look.
Any other ideas of logical organization if I had to do it myself ? Pascal

Re: Organize sound library
Well, I did organize my sounddesign the way you said before. All my swooshes in one folder and so on...
But in the end I will get hard to look through it all and alot of good sound will maybe get forgotten and so on. With audiofinder you can also give the different sounds a comment which it includes in a search. Say a swoosh which sounds great for a big door closing is called swoosh 3.aif you just add "Door_dark_close" to it and evertime you search for door it will still show ! ;-P well, any way. I love it and it works for me.... My sounddesign Harddrive is 500Gb and almost full so I don´t have time to learn were everything is... Take care.... |

Re: Organize sound library
I did not dowload the trial version yet but is there a way to extract a part of the sound and paste it in the PT timeline ?
Thanks for your time. Any other idea is welcome too .... Pascal

Re: Organize sound library
A vote here for Mtools from Gallery. I use it daily and adding more libraries all the time. I especially love that I can use a searchword such as "wind", then do a second or third or fourth layer of search, thereby removing items such as "windows" and "clock" and so on. Mtools allows me to audition the sounds, then hit a button and it's in my protools bin.
