HELP !! Pro Tools keeps giving me error message !

Hello everyone,

Got a problem, and I hope someone can help. I'm running a pretty old Pro Tools rig. Pro Tools 5.1, Mix Plus (no extra farm or mix cards), G4, 400MHz (single processor), running on OS 9.0.1.

Lately, when I try to insert a plug-in on a track, I keep getting an error message (error #7204) saying that I don't have enough free DSP left.. However, when I look at my system usage window, I still have plenty of DSP left (at least 3 free bars that haven't even been used yet, in addition to a few other partially used bars). Sometimes, I just quit Pro Tools and restart it, and it works. But this has been happening more and more.

Any ideas? Thanks !!!!

try trashing all your PT and DAE prefs, reboot, zap your P-RAM, rebuild your desktop, reboot and try again.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that... Uhhh.. I'm also not sure about what "zapping my P RAM" means. Sorry... Kinda new to this.

on the mac hold down the option and apple key and the P key and the R key after hitting restart and hold down for at least 3 start up chimes

i think those are the right keys

that will clean out the chip or whatever it is and you can have a fresh cleanse

yes. it is your parameter ram. but it is for OS9 only. no need to do it in OSX. and studio jimi nailed it, apple+option+p+r, restart, hold all keys, 3 chimes, let go. rebuild desktop is restart and hold apple+option. sometimes i would zap p-ram, and only let go of the p+r and hold onto apple+option and rebuild. restart after a rebuild.

Once again,, thanks guys. Uhh.. I noticed one more thing. Pro Tools will actually let me use almost any plug-in... except for Waves plugs. Weirdest thing. Like I said, I still have 3 whole DSP bars (in my Farm/Mix card) which haven't even been used yet.. and I can't open a Waves plug (although I've already used a bunch of them). I can, however, open up any other plug-in (focusrite, etc).

Any more ideas? This is weird. Is there a limit on how many Waves plug-ins I can simultaneously use? Is there a setting I need to change?

better check and make sure you have the correct wave shell installed and that it is installed correctly. try uninstalling and installing waves again.

Without wanting to bug you too much... can you please explain exactly how that works? (waveshell). I'm not that saavy in that department. Thanks again
