Nforce 4 Chipset work?
On the digidesign site for AMD requirements it says socket 754, 939, or nforce3.
What about nforce4, like this board... http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16813186037 I'm guessing it would work, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks for the help. |

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
Looks like it should work.
It seems to have all the specs according to the compatibility page. This maybe a question for Allen or the best Desktops thread... Best of Luck - Scott

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
No one has been able to get this chipset to work yet. I suspect it is the first SATA ports that is the issue myself and using the onboard IDE and second SATA ports may work. I'd stick with DFI boards for easy configuration and get a good return policy.

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
Quote:
My box is: ASUS A8N-SLI Athlon 64 3000 1gb dual channel (2x 512) Corsair TWINX RAM Seagate Barracuda 160gb (SATA w/NCQ on port 1) ASUS RX600 PCIex-16 vid card WinXP Pro SP2 I was concerned it wouldn't work with my 001 and my first attempt gave me a BSOD. However after a bit of diagnosing I found that so long as you use the standard IDE/SATA drivers that come with Windows (not the nvidia ADMA drivers) it works great. I davec'd it and got 32 tracks + 9 stereo aux tracks each with a dverb inserted and could comfortably record for over 1 minute. Interestingly despite the CPU load being almost pegged the responsiveness of the system was much better, I loosely speculate the PCIex video subsystem allows redraws to happen faster or something. Now it has been so long since I did a davec test can someone confirm what you put on the aux's? From memory once you'd hit the track limit you created stereo aux tracks with dverbs on them is that right? Cheers, Marcus |

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
The aux tracks for the DAVEC test get the same plugins in the description I read. Comp, 4 band eq, slap, medium and long delays.

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
Just tried another davec using mono aux's with the same plugin chain as the audio tracks. Managed to get 32 + 14 aux .. i'm pretty impressed!

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
Its not just PT users that are having trouble with the nforce4 chipsets.
The problem seems to be the pci-x, or pci-e? not sure which one that is causing problems with soundcards. The general consensus is to stay away from nforce4 chipsets for now. |

Re: Nforce 4 Chipset work?
The other thing to remember is the DFI LanParty 250GB nF3 board with the mobile AMD 64 3400 is still our best performer so spending more money for lower performance is not what I'd call a smart buy. This is the best combination going right now.
