OT-Guitarists order of effects pedals
Does anyone know of a website that deals with the issue of which pedals should go where in the chain? It's been so long since I've had a "real" amp, as for the last 5 years I've had Line 6 stuff.
Now I've got a pedal board the size of Rhode Island, and the answer tends to shift night and day to the question. I'd love to hear some personal experience on this. Here's the pedals I have: Fulltone Clyde Deluxe wah Xotic AC Boost Barber Direct Drive SS Keeley modded Rat Tech 21 Comptortion Barber Tone Press compressor Line 6 Tap Tremolo Line 6 DL4 delay Digitech Whammy Voodoo Lab Chorus Ernie Ball volume pedal

Re: OT-Guitarists order of effects pedals
in the loop: compressors, delays, volume, flangers, chorus, phaser, tremelo
in front: distortions, wahs, your comptortion, any preamp modelling stuff you want to use (if you want to use the eq on your amp) if you have a preamp that you want to use you can alos plug that into the effects return and just use your amp as a poweramp. I used to do this with my JMP-1. |

Re: OT-Guitarists order of effects pedals
I'm mostly in agreement with GothicV with one exception - compression....
Infact - if you have a stand alone compression - I think that you should run it first, then wha pedal, then preamp/distortion.... It's a simple concept, what should come before the preamp and what should come after the preamp... And like I said - I think GothicV is pretty much right on. |

Re: OT-Guitarists order of effects pedals
I had one of the original pedalboards from hell all thru the 70's and 80's. My preference is compressors first, distortion next followed by wah pedals with echo/verb/chorus last. Volume pedals need a bit of thought: Putting it before the distortion will clean up your sound when you back it off, volume AFTER distortion will keep the same drive but at a lower volume(my choice). I also keep echo and verb AFTER the volume pedal so I can drop volume without cutting off verb or echo trails.
