AAX only (not AU, VST2 or VST3) unless you use a bridging technology like Blue Cat Patchworks.

Instead of playing 20 questions why don't you read the product specs. Any serious limitations will be mentioned there. If stuff is not clear then come back and ask questions.

best idea is to purchase an one month plan to check everything in artist version.

Re: pro tools artist and 3 rd party plugins
That's always a good idea...make sure you are on a compatible OS version to avoid any hassles. And... there are not supposed to be any plugin limitations in Artist... beyond how they intersect with all the other limitations, e.g. like limits on number of inputs etc. And there are enough of those limits that I want you to read the comparison page that lists them. And I'm sure there will be something for some reason that does not work.. and plugin vendors are probably not QA testing on Artist, but hopefully any differences that could cause problems are extremely unlikely.
The other issue is most of the folks (including me) who post on DUC have never used Artist, we are not going too buy a subscription to play with it. Which will mean unfortunately it might languish on DUC and seem an ignored product and send bad signs that it probably should not. Hopefully Artist users will start posting here and form their own community, but it's hard for that to organically bootstrap. Artist seems a *much* better put together product/strategy than the mess that First ever was and I hope it takes off. Unfortunately it lives in the shadow of First... which leads to concerns like yours, or maybe even just assumptions, about plugin restrictions. |
