Default NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 in 2007 Mac Pro

Hey guys,

A bit off topic, but I've noticed that my original NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT in my early 2007 Mac Pro (2 x 2.66) isn't working so well anymore. I'd also like the option to use the new LED displays via the Mini Displayport connector.

Has anyone installed an NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 into one of these earlier 2007 Mac Pros? I've read numerous posts of people saying it won't work, and then others that say it does...

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks!
Sig

Edit - seems like the ATI Radeon HD 4870 is the way to go.

Yeah, I think the GT120 is actually slower than the 7300. I do know the ATI 4870 kicks ass. However, double check on the Apple site to make sure the 4870 is compatible with the 2007 Mac Pros. I *think* it is, but check.

I put a ATI 3870 into a 2007 Mac Pro w/o any problems.
it preforms great w/o taking up the extra space of the 4870.

Ya I didn't want to risk the NVIDIA. Got the ATI installed yesterday and it's working great. Now I'm ready for anything Mini DP - specifically the new 27" and 32" LED Apple displays coming next month!!!!

Bringing an old thread to life here, Siegfried.

May I ask which ATI card you installed? I'm not sure if you got the 3870 or the 4870...?

I need to replace the card in my 1st generation mac.
