Default is there a way to organize the plug-in list?

i tried making folders in dae folder -> plug ins but that didn't work. just wondering cause when you're list starts getting long it can be annoying to find the one you need especially at high monitor resolution. thanks for reading.

One trick I learnt is to create folders in DAE folder/plug-ins with Alphabets. ie, A, B ,....Z (??) So they will be listed in correct alphatical order.

I havent tried this, but maybe "1" , "2" , "3" also can, ie. if you want MAXIM to come before Dverb, place Maxim in "1" and Dverb in "2" ..etc

Regards,
[Charles]

This is one simple thing that Digidesign could "fix" to improve the software's interface. It's kind of a shame... all other softwares can do that since version 1.0 but PT.

download the demo version of Pluggo RTAS. Along with a zillion little plugins, it includes an application called Plugin Manager, which works like the Extensions Manager for your plugins. even if you don't buy the package, the Plugin Manager works fine and has no expiration date.

Posted by Digi tech support last year:

-Plug-in "organization" (maybe not the best choice of words in this case, hence the quotes) is accomplished by the plug-in cache. As new plug-ins are installed, the plug-in cache is updated to include each new plug-in.

-If you trash the plug-in cache file in your DAE preference folder, you may see a change in your plug-in listing the next time Pro Tools is launched. This is due to the fact that whenever the plug-in cache is rebuilt, plug-ins are listed according to their company ID (no, I do not know what the company ID's are for each plug-in vendor). Other than that, there is, no method being used by the Pro Tools software to organize plug-ins in a more "human way" (i.e. effect type, alphabetical order, etc).

As stated above in an earlier post, there is an undocumented method of artificially arranging the plug-in list by placing subfolders in the DAE>Plug-Ins Folder. Create a folder within the DAE>Plug-Ins Folder and label it "Dynamics". Now place all your dynamics-type plug-ins within that folder. Next time you launch Pro Tools, you will see that all your dynamics plug-ins will be listed first. Now create a second folder and call it "EQ". Do the same and re-launch. Note that all your EQs come first and your Dynamics plug-ins next. The reason why EQ plug-ins are listed first is due to reading the folder labels in alphabetical order.

NOTE:
-If you do create sub-folders to help better organize your plug-ins, please be aware that the Pro Tools Installer does not recognize these embedded folders. Therefore, if/when you ever upgrade your version of Pro Tools, it will not move the older plug-in files to the "Obsoleted Digidesign Software" folder...and will cause problems. You will have to move them manually (and reorganize the new plug-in files in the proper folders).
