Converting 25 fps to 24fps Audio
Hi
I work on Pro Tool 8.1 HD, ICon D-Control in my company they gave me a video converted from 25 fps to 24 fps so the video now is 24 fps and they gave the sound track from the original video before converted so the Sound track of the video is 25 fps whats the right way to convert the Sound track from 25 fps to 24 fps to fit exactly on the converted video (24 fps) Thanks Kade B |

Re: Converting 25 fps to 24fps Audio
The "time shift" plug in has some post format conversion presets.
On page 106 of the audio plug ins guide in your documentation folder, there is a table showing you post production pull up / down tasks, frame rates etc . . I think you need the "film to PAL" preset. . Bingo !

Re: Converting 25 fps to 24fps Audio
Let's face it: the stock plugs in PT are NOT acceptable in term of quality when it comes to that kind of tasks!...
You'll get terrible results, specially on music with sustained notes or complex ambiences. XForm is not so much better IMHO. Many studios use Prosoniq Time Factory to perform "harmonisation" (french term, not sure if "harmonization" is being used in "english post") and, to get better result, we (the mixers) always ask processing to be applied "stem by stem" (Dial only, foleys only, FX only, Amb only, Music only...). Which means a little remixing after processing... In some cases, we might prefer a simple "Pull up/down" which mainly consists in "fooling" PT and feeding him with, for example, 48KHz files while forcing SRC (Import Audio window) to 50KHz (Film to PAL) or 49,08 (PAL to Film). This will only work if "Copy" is being selected in the Import Window, and that will work with different (higher) sample rates. Of course, the file's pitch will be modified which can be compensate by processing pitch, or not (ambiences or FX can be left that way, even dial in some cases, music being more "touchy" since the composer will hear the difference and probably complain about it, with reasons). As far as length is concerned, it's completely normal that a 24fps movie "converted" to 25fps shows a different duration. I guess the videos weren't of the same duration too, right?... If they were, it means that the conversion has been made with tools that allow duration to be respected (After Effect does that pretty well for example).

Re: Converting 25 fps to 24fps Audio
1.07 % longer is strange, it should be 1.04%...
Could it be because the conversion process was applied twice. This happened to me once because the pull up/pull down "auto" mode was engaged in the session setup window. Importing the audio in the 24 fr session had auto converted the audio already once before I did in manually making the audio nearly 1.08% longer. Just a thought...
