When opening PT file PT does not respond

I have been using PT8 on a Mac for a couple of years. I'm not working now so I really can't upgrade. PT8 has been pretty good for what I do. Now all of a sudden when I open a previously saved file from PT8 when the program opens it loads 1/4 the way and then I have to "force quit" because the program is not responding so I have to reopen the file from the backups folder and pick a backup file (recovered)
to open it. I save the "recovered" file as a "save as" I work on it as normal. I quit the program and then back to the beginning of my post. I already reinstalled PT8. I'm running OS1 0.6.8 This has just started happening this past week in an otherwise perfect trouble free relationship with PT8. Any thoughts?

It sounds very much like a corrupt session. And that something you do with it between "save as..." and closing the session, is corrupting it again. Are you inserting a plugin perhaps, that might be the culprit?

Have you opened a backup file and "saved as..." without modifying it? Does it open again without crashing?

Tried everything and the same. I just keep opening the file and it eventually opens

Maybe try creating a new session and import the tracks.

so your forcing Pro Tools open when double clicking the session? not the best way (I know everyone does it) it's much better to launch Pro Tools then use the open session from Pro Tools
you may have corrupting pref files
you may have some other corruption happening, every system needs to be rebuild from the ground up at some point (everything fresh from the OS on up)

Don't forget the trick of holding the SHIFT key while opening a session, to make all plugins inactive. That will help you decide if you have a bad or outdated plugin(maybe its a plugin you don't use a lot). I know when I went to PT9 from 8, my old AutoTune would crash every session that it was used on.

I don't know but everything I've ever read on the subject sates it's not a good idea
and if you use template session files by double clicking them, it maks a awful mess
