Default Import audio, playback issue

Ok I looked and could not find this question asked, I have pro tools 9, using a dell latitude e6400, windows 7 64 bit, 8 gb of ram, mbox 2 mini, recording to a mercury elite pro external, asio4all downloaded due to "could not locate hardware" message. I only record vocals with imported audio instrumentals.

So when I have my mbox 2 mini hooked up before opening pro tools 9, all playback is fine like listening to music on windows media player, computer sounds, test works fine etc. Then I open up pro tools and create a 24 bit 44.1 session, everything set to the external drive. First thing I do is try to import audio, now sometimes pro tools will freeze during this process which i cannot figure out, so i have to restart pro tools. On occasion i get past that issue and my audio is imported fine. When that happens, my next step is to simply play the imported audio (usually just a instrumental) but as soon as i hit play its starts to skip and 9093 errors come up or 9094, sometimes 9129, or in one instance it did not skip but had crackling and popping noises with a 9093 error, and one time everything worked just fine (only 1 time)

Basically:

Why does it freeze when importing audio (not like when it freezes for 2 seconds and imports the audio successfully)?

Why does it skip when playing back the audio instrumental that was imported? Does something else need to be done with the external?

note: I have messed with all the sample rates and has not made a difference

I feel like it is just something small and stupid but I cant figure it out.

Does the issue only happen when you have imported audio? If you were to record vocals and play those back it works fine?

It does not allow me to record because it skips and the timer goes really slow, almost like every tenth of a second take a second on the timer. It only happens in pro tools, when I play the instrumental on WMP it works fine through the mbox2 mini.
