Default Upgrading to 7.4 can't remove old 7.3.1cs3

went to add/remove programs as usual with a new upgrade but it won't let me remove it! I get a setup.exe error. Viewing technical information it says:

Exception Information
Code 0xc00000005
Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x00000000000000000
Address: 0x00000000004l348b

Then system info, Module 1, Module 2, Module 3, etc

Have to send to error report to Microsoft every time.

Should I not remove it and just go ahead and install 7.4?

You need to remove it to install. The install won't let you proceed until it is gone.

You might need to try the Pro Tools Uninstaller Utility

There have been several reports of "other" software being installed that is corrupting the uninstall process. You might check to make sure all of your other software is up to date, compatible and properly authorized.

I'm running this uninstaller....before I proceed....is this a soft uninstall? Don't want a complete uninstall - don't wanna lose plugins, databases, MIDI settings, etc.

It says:

"This utility will remove any currently installed Pro Tools software components which will allow you to start a fresh install from the Pro Tools installer CD. Any currently installed Digidesign drivers will remain intact."

Also, did a file search on digidesign on my PC and I don't see an uninstall folder anywhere...

It is always recommended to delete databases and preferences when upgrading any version of Pro Tools. If you are really worried about not being able to set the preferences up again correctly, you should definitely write them down somewhere.

As for plugins; no, it shouldn't delete the plugin folder. However, even if it did, it's not that much of a pain to re-install them. Many of them are going to need to be updated to new versions anyway for compatibility with 7.4, so...

You did do a full system backup before you started the upgrade procedure, right? Just so if something goes wrong and you need to you can get back to working very quickly? Definitely highly recommended.

I have all songs backed up to an ext HDD

running the uninstall program and now running the new PT7.4 and now I get:

"Digidesign Audio Drivers appear to be installed on this computer. The Pro Tools driver versions are not compatible with the installed Digidesign Audio Drivers.

Please use the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel to unistall the existing Digidesign Audio Drivers and restart this computer before installing Pro Tools."

Should I go ahead and remove the Digidesign Audio Drivers 7.3 from the add/remove programs list?

This uninstall should definitely NOT touch any of your Pro Tools sessions, unless of course, you have foolishly put them within the Digidesign Databases folder for some reason.

Installed 7.4

Starting it I now get "unable to locate digidesign hardware"

Have gotten that from time to time in the past and a PC reboot has always solved it. Rebooted twice and am still getting the error message. Any ideas?

Are you sure the hardware is plugged in?

Which hardware are you using specifically?

Did you go ahead and remove the drivers as directed during install? (you should have...)

Where did you get the 7.4 upgrade?

Pc was fine tuned and running perfectly with 7.3
I always hate upgrading, there's almost always problems and then the additional cost to call digi tech support.....:)

Went to uninstall 7.4 in add/remove and lo and behold there's still part of 7.3 listed - only a 6.58MB size file. Tried to remove THAT and I got the setup.exe error message to send to Microsoft.

7.4 is listed also at 100.00MB

How can I get rid of that remaining 7.3 file??
