Click track stops working after 6101 Error
As the title suggests, if a 6101 error happens during playback in pro tools 2023.6 the click track stop working. Sometimes it will spit out the occasional single click, and then nothing. Closing and reopening pro tools fixes it until the next 6101 error occurs.
This behaviour seems to go hand in hand with the virtual instrument issues I reported in another thread. 6101 error, followed by non-audio tracks behaving in unexpected ways until the next restart. Pro Tools Ultimate 2023.6 (Silicon Mode) Ventura 13.4.1 MacBook Pro 16" M1Max fully loaded RME Madiface XT Also please make me a beta tester already. This is getting frustrating. |

visibility boost for you friend.
I'm thinking of moving to ventura to try and fix the midi problems but it seems you're already there and having the same problems. I will also have to check the click track now!!

Someone in the other thread suggested ventura as a fix and I can confirm it did not work. In fact, I’d highly suggest against it since it compromises the functionality of previous pro tools versions. I had to roll back os’s overnight so I could use Monterey/2022.12 , which has been fairly stable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Click track stops working after 6101 Error
if this issue persists, make two click tracks from the get go, disable the second one. When the one dies, enable the second one. A bug workaround

Re: Click track stops working after 6101 Error
Hi there. Thanks for making a case for me. For whatever reason, you assigned the case to a colleague of mine named Howie by mistake. I'll DM you my info to have this corrected.
I'll note that I've since downgraded my computer back to macOS Monterey and Pro Tools 2022.12 . I'm also seeing this issue happen in this configuration. 6101 errors are not as frequent, but any time they happen it will cause the click track to misbehave. Current workaround is to print click to audio which avoids using the avid click plugin. The errors typically occur in a heavy session at low-ish latency (128 samples). The error itself I don't mind and is somewhat understandable when I'm pushing my session, but the fact that it bricks some functionality until the next PT restart is frustrating and kills productivity. Re: Click track stops working after 6101 Error
I've managed to isolate this problem. See the video linked below. Heavy session running at low buffer. 6101 error occurs, as somewhat expected in a big session like this. You can see that before the error, the click works as expected. Then afterwards, the click begins to not work.
Please note, this is not a "I should be able to do whatever I want at low buffer" complaint. This was simply a test case that I knew would trigger the error. The point is that 6101's happen, sometimes even in situations where you've managed your resources well. I find it disruptive that Pro Tools is unstable and fails to operate normally after it has recovered from this error. 6101 Click bug video: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/5mz6j...eo66746n8&dl=0 System specs in this video are: M1Max Macbook Pro - 10 core (2 eff 8 perf) 64 gb RAM 32 core GPU Monterey 12.6.7 Pro Tools 2022.12 (Rosetta) RME Madiface XT (Driver Version 3.28 B) I've also seen this happen on the same computer running macOS 13.4.1 and Pro Tools 2023.6 Native Silicon Mode Workarounds: Sometimes toggling buffer size in playback engine will fix it Sometimes, opening a new session, and then reopening the buggy session fixes it Restarting pro tools completely will fix it after the error occurs Clicking "ignore errors" in playback engine creates far fewer 6101 errors as expected, and therefore reduces the chances of this issue occurring . I'd rather not lean on this feature though, and would rather just deal with a 6101 once or twice in a heavy session. If PT was stable post-6101 , this would be manageable. Other issues that occur when this bug is active: General unpredictability with instrument tracks. Sometimes no sound at all on inst tracks. Sometimes sound only out of the left side of a VI. Results vary, but any issues seem to arise in tandem with this click track problem. I hope this is enough information for your team. |
