Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
Hey i have a good guitar(77 Starcaster). I have the 002 rack
I plug the guitar directly in the back in one of the preamps I can never get a good sound using amplitube. Any tips. Do you have to change all the settings in amplitube to get a decent sound... Ill post an example later. |

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
you're never going to get the same kind of sound with amplitube like you can with micing a good amp.

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
Do you have Amplitube2 or AmplitubeLE? The LE version doesn't even compare to the full version. I had to really tweak the LE version to get a sound I like. The full version has tons of good tones.
BTW: if you are using the LE version, I usually used two instances of it and layered the tones. I would run the output of my guitar channel into two buses with AmplitubeLE on each one. Try a clean tone mixed with a distorted one, etc....

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
Let's not forget that a crappy guitar might not sound good through any amp (or modeler). I have a much easier time getting a good sound from a good guitar and a crappy amp than the opposite. This is why my studio is stocked with a Gibson Nighthawk and an Epiphone Sheraton (poor man's ES335 - same woods & pick-ups), covers most of the bases. And for backing guitars if it's a good guitar bad amp situation, I don't hesitate to fire up a modeler and I always track a DI off the guitar.
edit: Ah I didn't see that it is not a crappy guitar. Still maybe it's the wrong guitar for what you're after. |

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
I use GR2 and can get pretty decent tones - however, never as good as using my CAE 3+ preamp rig though a decent mic..

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
You say you're plugging directly into the 002R.
Are you using a DI box? If not, there's an impedance mismatch that will kill the tone. The guitar is expecting a high impedance input, typically 100Kohms minimum, whereas the MIC inputs on the 002R are around 600ohms. I've not used Amplitube, but I have used Guitar Rig, WAVES GTR with the 002R and a Radial Engineering PRO DI with great success. I hope this helps... Larry |

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
Does anyone know the impedance settings for the MBox input options - Mic, Line and Inst??

Re: Not getting good guitar sounds using amplitube
The inputs on the Mbox1 have a setting for instrument level input. I don't know about the rest of the Mbox line.
