M-Box will give you preamps.....but you lose 2 channels...and $500. I'd say hang on to your amiii until digidesign stops supporting it. (i have had the AMIII something like 5 years before i upgraded to digi001 because i wanted more inputs....)

I am curious too... sometimes I wonder if I should stick with my audiomediacard III rather than hunger for a digi001.

I am only recording two tracks at a time and it is usually just a classical guitar or voice.

I am sort of debating whether I should just concentrate on just using my amiii with some good tube pre-amps and just get some good mics for the kind of room I am recording in. I am even suspecting that I don't have much use for a little mackie mixer because it is just little old' me.

I still wonder though am I missing out? Should a fellow recording the way I do bother with anything else other than my faithfull audiomedia III card?

I'm using the AMIII with an A.R.T. tube pre amp. I use the spdif's from the pre for mic's for my classical guitar and the analouge ins for synths ect. giving me 4 very flexible inputs.I think for the money the AMIII is still one of the most useful and best sounding cards I've used
