Default Native Instruments Studio Bug!

Guys,
take care about the update on Studio Collection 1.1.
Now you are not able to play an instrument (ex. B4) w/o a real audio interface open.
If you will open an instrument on Aux track, you have to set a real audio input device.
Please, disconnect mics BEFORE...

The answer from NI is:
"yes, we are aware of that and we are investigating. For the moment there is no other way than to make sure this interface input is not used.
Please notice that with the version 1.1 also the whole HTDM implementation has changed, so you can be sure that NI is trying to fix this in cooperation with Digidesign.

They told me that I could upgrade from all the Native versions of the exact same plugins to the Studio Protools collection for $750. I said "Wow what a deal!"

Please....Attention...Take care about the Studio collection upgrade 1.1..if you don't make a "real interface " connection input on a studio collection plug and press play with a midi trigger, after some seconds (depends from the midi buffer, i suppose) , the computer will be freeze... in the best case.

What do you mean by a "real interface" connection input?

Thanks.

My experience with the PTE collection, has so far been a NIGHTMARE.

While their manuals are the worst I've ever seen. while they cover the fine-details really well, they hardly deal at all with the basic operational functions, or the details regarding HTDM and D-C.

Their update installer often leave pieces of the old software about, causing havoc.

Their read-me files are often cryptic enough to confuse that "Beautiful Mind" guy.

All of their presets on the FM7 and the B4 PTE overload the TDM environment. They should have adjusted the gain for us, as these are specifically TDM versions.

And heck, Battery is a painfully simplistic thing. I have no use for it. Pro52 is OK, but doesn't sound as good as Virus. _i am anxious to hear the new pro-53, though. New filters... hmmm
----------------------

B4 is wonderful, and perhaps worth all the trouble, but then again maybe not.

FM7 and Absynth definitely ARE worth the trouble. But it's been SO much trouble for me I'm about to go postal. YMMV.

Boy, did I need to vent.
I have spent the last three days doing nothing but trying to get these apps to work on HD. Still no go.

For Real Interface input i mean:
In an AUX track (mono or Stereo), insert, for example, a B4.
YOU MUST TO OPEN A REAL AUDIO CONNECTION... ((((, example: input analog 1-2 192 and output 1-2 192

these mean that you must to remember to disconnect, ex a mike, from these audio interface input!!

However, the main problem is protools freeze if you don't leave open an audio input and trigger the VI with midi information!!

I had lots of distortion as well, I went back to streammanager 512 instead of the 128. This cleared up all the problems. Very frustrating.

Dutchmuzik,

Going back to the 512K Streamanager got rid of the distortion? Oh man, that better not be it. I was using the 128K S-M with my Mix system.

If I now have to use 512K, NI will have some serious explaining to do.

What could be happening? Does HD create a lot more cpu overhead? I thought it was just the opposite.

Digi technical specialist is request now.
i had posted the problem to NI and this is the answer:

Hello Corrado,

thank you for this report. Though I am not sure what exactly you mean be
"audio interface open".... turned on.... connected..... selected in I/O
preferences? ....and the problem occurs when leaving "open more than a midi
connection to trigger some plug-ins (ex. Battery and B4)" , so this means
when having instantiated a plug-in? No.... then there would be no more MIDI
connection to be selected. So are you talking about having more than one
MIDI connection selected in the session which is reopened???

(My guess: OMS/Pro Tools problem)

I am sure you have also sent this to Digidesign support, could be that the
Studio Collection is part of the problem, but it is not causing it.

Best Regards

Stephan Sippel, NI

Now i have post this:

Hi stephen,
To explain better the problem you can try in this way.

In a session, create 2 midi track:
1 midi (organ line)
1 midi (drum line)
Now, create 2 aux mono or stereo input:
1 insert B4
1 insert Battery (and load a kit, of course)

route the first midi track (organ line) to 1 B4 Upper
route the second midi track (battery) to 1 Battery

route the first aux (B4) audio input to 1-2
route the second aux (Battery) audio input to 1-2

switch on the recording button in the first midi track (B4), and record (rec+play) something with the keyboard (16 bar can be enough), at the end press space bar, and switch off the recording button.

switch on the recording button in the second midi track (Battery), and record (rec+play) a drum line with the keyboard or if you prefer import a midi file.
at the end switch off the recording button on the midi track.

Now, in all two aux input (B4+Battery), route all inputs to "no interface".

press play and (of course) you will hear nothing.

wait some seconds, it depends how many notes you have recorded in the midi tracks, the computer will be freeze in some seconds..

I don't know what is the problem, i don't know if is Protools, NI or OMS.
I will post this message also to digidesign, i like to know if you will see the same problem.

Now i downgrade to version 1.0, and the freeze comes away (it seems).

My configuration is:

G4 800Mhz DP OS 9.2.2
Protools HD 5.3.1r2 (1 core + 6 process)
SBS 13 slots expansion chassis
OMS (the last one)
Emagic unitor 8
atto dual channel scsi card

I will hope that this message will help you to know better the problem.

best regards,
Corrado Magalotti

If someone in digidesign, can check the situation, it will be the best thing!!
i don't know if there something bad with MIDI or something else..PLEASE, check it and let me know..

Best Regards,
