Default MacBook Pro issues

HI All,

Does anyone else have this problem?

I have a Mac Book Pro running Pro Tools 8 however I am regularly receiving
-6101 errors asking me to increase the H/W buffer or reduce RTAS plugins.

I get the error mostly when I use the templates (songwriter - guitarist) provided in PT8 and not much more. I change the xpand plugin to EZdrummer.

I can't seem to record more than 50-60 seconds before the error occurs. I'm already on 1024 samples, 2 processors and 90%.

Does anyone have similar specs and have the same problem?

My specs are:

Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks for your help!

Maars

Are you recording to a external firewire drive with a compatible firewire chipset?

since you have 2 cores, go into playback engine and set it for 1 core, 85%.

Some plugins use non realtime code. In your case, setting your RTAS CPUs to 1 leaves your other core for any non realtime code and other processes.

Note that this doesn't disable the other processor, it's just more efficient RTAS usage.

Also, what other plugins do you have installed? 1 incompatible plugin (even if it's not used in the session) can cause lots of problems like what you're having.

The other plugin that I'm using are the ones that came with PT8

Sansamp, D-Verb, EQ III, Eleven Free, Bombfactory compressor, JOMeek EQ, xpand and mini grand piano.

try tracking to the internal drive. I do it all the time and never get payback errors. Either that or don't run as many plaugs while tracking.

I wouldn't record to the internal system drive unless I was just trying to test something. There's just too many things the OS is doing on that drive. I also agree with lowering the number of processor cores to one so that one is left free to handle non-realtime plugins.

Also upgrade to 4gB RAM. It is dirt cheap and will free up resources (system drive access).
