I thought Everymac was unable to look up newer Macs. Hopefully that's not true.

It at least lists M3 Max MBP's so I'd guess it has them all

I'd assumed so, but my laptop is an M2 (so not the newest Mac) and their website says this when using the "Lookup" function w/ my SN#:

This entry looks like it could be a new ten-character serial number from Apple hardware released in April 2021 or later. EveryMac.com currently supports eleven-character and twelve-character serial numbers.

Well their lookup is broken then. Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac and use that model information to look it up yourself by series.

I don't need info about my computer -- I'm not downgrading -- I was hoping to assist the person who'd asked, so they'd need to look up their own machine.

Sure, got it. Well now we know apparently their search is not working so one needs to look up the model from the list (not so hard really).

When I searched the model identifier it said the pre-installed MacOS was 13.4 (ventura) but when i tried to DL ventura it says I can't install it. So I think I would have to go the partition-route and install it there?

Not sure it's worth it because once PT is sonoma-ready and I want to use my "real" hard drive, I'd need to re-do all the installing I did on the partition? Or.... I'd have to save a time-machine backup of the partition running Ventura, then do a reinstall of the "real" hard drive and have it restore everything from the Ventura time-machine backup?

Ugh -- seems complicated. :-(

Go back to your dealer and demand they downgrade it for you, in case you are uncomfortable doing it by yourself. Either way, the process takes few hours and will wipe your internal storage.

Pre-Installed means nothing, the later production runs may have latest OS pre-installed. However, if that model has ever left factory with Ventura installed it can be downgraded to Ventura. That is a fact.

If you choose to do it yourself...

Code:
google> downgrading ventura steps
First you should try downloading it straight from the net, but if for any reason that option only offers Sonoma, you need to create a bootable USB installer stick.

I think I heard somewhere that Sonoma doesn’t allow you to downgrade, unlike Ventura and before. You would have to get the Ventura installer on a boot drive, and boot up from it.
