Yes it's mentioned in the first article you posted, though now the link is dead here it is:

How to Fix:

How to prevent:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

I don't know if you can say it's entirely HP's fault. Sounds like even though XP is detecting a different processor, it's not making all the necessary changes.
Well if you were to install from a regular XP install disc it would recognize the correct processor and install the correct files. Stuff like this is the danger of using images.

I know that someone else mentioned this but I'll reiterate. Everything seemed to work but the installer for Fastrack Pro driver would not run. I had to back out the service pack and install the driver then reinstall the service pack. I'm not sure how many other driver installation programs will have the same issue. I ended up re-installing the PC with Service Pack 2 and staying there. Once the driver installers are updated then I'll go to SP3. If you don't anticipate any instability on your system then the upgrade seems to be a good bet.

I'd strongly advise NOT installing SP3 to anyone using M-Powered. When you do Windows Updates, choose Custom instead of Express. This lets you get IE7, and all security updates and patches without moving up to SP3.

They say it's ok once your interface is installed, but what happens if you need to reinstall your M-Audio drivers? You'll be stuck uninstalling SP3. I did this once, and it ended up screwing up some aspects of the way Windows Explorer works. Just install up to SP2 and custom install all other updates. Until M-Audio comes out with new drivers that install on SP3 it's not worth it.

I wasn't aware of any MAudio driver issues. It should be mentioned that not every program out there is SP3 compatible. A good point is Microsoft's own Windows Live One Care security program. I had to roll back SP3 to install Windows Live One Care but it was painless and went smooth and once the program was updated I simply reinstalled SP3. Assuming your programs and hardware are compatible I would still recommend SP3.

I know the OP said that they were up and running fine...

But something noteworthy for anyone doing a search...

On June 9th, M-Audio released SP3 compatible drivers for most of their USB interfaces (Fast Track, JamLab, etc). I don't think you mentioned which interface you have, but check out this page...

http://www.m-audio.com/news/en_us-1285.html

I'd imagine that new drivers for the firewire series of interfaces should not be far behind (one would hope).

Im about to do a fresh install of XP Pro, get SP3 and upgrade to MPowered 7.4. I have a project mix I/O i see that has the SP3 drivers. I also have a Axiom 49 Keyboard. From the link on MAudio's site it says they are in development of this model keyboard as well as the others. Does this mean it wont work at all when i do this upgrade? Also is there anything that i might run into a problem with my machine. Here are the specs

Tyan Mobo
2 AMD Opteron 270
6 gigs of Corsair Ram

My Axiom61 is working here with LE and SP3. I think I would install the MAudio Midi driver and then update to SP3 just to be safe. The Axiom is USB class compliant so there should be little if any driver issues with SP3.

Your aware if you go to Microsoft that you can download SP3 as a burnable CD .iso file and update to SP3 without having to go online?
