Pro tools smart tools issue

I recently bought a windows laptop and I am running pro tools 12 on it. Everytime I try to use any if the smart tools the track I am working on gets highlighted and moves from the edit window, where it normally is, to on top of the transport window and smart tool selection area at the top of the screen. When I release the tool I am using, it goes back to where it's supposed to be beside the track name, inserts, sends ect. This is making editing extremely hard. My desktop does not do this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
