You say they need transitional time, and I say they don't, and I give good reason for it, so then tell me, why wouldn't they release it soon then? With this release, yes the flak mattered, because they pretty much had to end up telling us all that everything we've been requesting is set for the next release, and if it wasn't even slightly soon, then why would they even bother to say that?

VE (pro) works great- also on one machine.
Spectrasonics is much more stable than in PT itself.

If you keep in mind, that PT 10 will be the last update for us HD- hardware- users, getting this Vienna program is the only way to "stay alive" for some more years.

I have it in the start applications folder and it loads the presets along with the protools session.

For me it is an easy way to go on!

Is anyone using EWQL Play software in Pro Tools 9 or 10? Especially Hollywood Strings and Brass?

I am upgrading my MAC Daw to a 2.4 8 core with 32 Gig of RAM.

Wondering if this will be an efficient system using VE Pro 5.

Hey! Yes I've been using Play for a while now; started using it within PT8. I've upgraded to PT9 and 3 weeks ago on PT10 and no problem. I have a MacPRO 4,1 (Nehalem) 2x 2,93GHz Quad Core + 12 GB RAM and I use all the EW/QL libraries apart of "Ministry of Rock" which I do not need as I use primarily my system for programming additional MIDI's for my band. I have used extensively Hollywood Strings and Storm Drum 2 Pro (unfortunately Hollywood Brass was released to late for that CD) on our latest album and again I had no problems what so ever. Works great. Of course it takes a while for Play to load the samples especially if you mix a lot of "instruments", but when they are loaded it works great. I've since upgraded to Play 3 as well (because I received the Brass instruments) and again - no problems, works great - at least for me and for my purpose.

Regards!

P.S.: I forgot to add that I program the MIDI, apply the right samples (Play) and then I record the audio(s) and then I make that MIDI inactive. And then I move to the next MIDI and do the same procedure. This way I do not have 1000x samples loaded all the time thus saving Mac resources. I guess if you would run everything as samples things would start to collapse due to lack or RAM - again at least for me as I have "only" 12 GB of it.

Thanks for the feedback oblivian.

Are you using VE Pro or just the Play software on an instrument insert in Pro Tools.

I would have a real hard time printing midi to audio. I am forever tweaking and making tempo changes to fit to picture so I need to be able to run lots of instruments either from Play or in VE Pro.

Would love to hear from someone who uses Hollywood Strings and Brass and see how many voices they can easily run.

Cheers

Paul

Hello!
I am using Play. But yeah - I understand you completely. My "work" is different from a composer that needs to manipulate all the MIDI's on the fly and adjust/tweak/modify them. Then printing to audio is obviously out of question in your case.
I'm just in the process of upgrading my system so I cannot do any testing. I am migrating to HDX (which are not yet out anyway) and at the same time I am also moving to UAD plug-ins so that I'll free as much resources on the host processor (and RAM) as possible ... this should give me more freedom when it comes working with VI's.
Cheers!
