Best. Upgrade. Ever!

Seriously, disc cache alone is worth the price of admission. My computer is a tired old first gen Mac Pro 2.66, and I have been waiting to replace it with a snappy new machine for months. After installing PT10, it actually feels downright peppy. There is no sluggishness in response at all, and I can wait until whenever Apple comes out with the successor to the current Mac Pro's.
I do need to get some more RAM though--I have 5GB and know I could get even more oomph out of it with say 8 or 12.

The only plug I have had problems with is Vocalign Pro, which is not putting results quite where they belong consistently. Sometimes it's ok. Waves--all working great.

I am running without hardware on PT10 with CPTK. I will be adding an HD Native card with an Omni next week.

Well .....I took the plunge and upgraded one of my ProTools HD9 (HD1) systems to HD|Native on ProTools HD 10, and the verdict is ...... SIMPLY AWESOME.

I am running on Windows 7 and the overall stability of the system is the best I have ever seen ProTools run, period. Integration with dedicated DSP hardward (UAD, Focusrite) has NEVER been better. Under a fully loaded mix, while playing, I am adding UAD and Liquid Mix plugins and the system doesn't falter or glitch in any way. It runs flawless. I can't break it no matter what I try. The Mackie Controls feel snappier than ever, and the plugin editing is now better because knob movements feel way more responsive, rather than slightly out of reach (as it did on PT9|HD1). Banking over on the Mackie Controls is almost scary how fast they respond. It's very very nice. My 96 IO (which I really only monitor through while mixing) integrates perfectly - no issues whatsoever. I have yet to try my Lynx Aurora 16 at my studio where I track the artists.

Overall the system is overwhelmingly stable and I for one am working faster than ever and it sounds amazing. I've played with some of the new features (clip gain, channel strip, 16k delay compensation) and they work perfectly out of the box. For the first time I feel I have no compromises to deal with and have maximum power at my disposal.

Very happy customer who evolved up from a single ProTools LE 7.4 rig I started on in 2008. As someone else said.... Jump in!

I Did. Thank you Avid!

Hate to break up all of the gushing "it's so amazing" testimonials going on here but, maybe a little perspective wouldn't be a terrible thing here. I've been using 10 for a little over a week now. For sure it's a great thing that it is stable. It isn't, however, any more stable than my HD 8 though. The clip gain feature is great and can certainly come in handy but it doesn't really enable me to do anything that I couldn't do in another way before I had it. The disk cache feature is great and does instill a degree of confidence in the belief that something new and functional is going on under the hood. It, of course, is the most likely contributer to the fact that the system feels ever so slightly a little bit snappier but you'ld have to be paying bigtime attention to really perceive any real improvement. All in all I'd hesitate to call it awesome just because it doesn't crash. I'm more inclined to call it a thoroughly useable, but not necessarily ground breaking, release.

I am going with another 8GB at least with the existing 8GB I have.. That is my recommendation. Otherwise you may max out sooner than you think. G

I'm digging how it sound sonically, vs other versions. Way smoother to me. I I can't wait until the 64 bit happens. I'm doing two albums for two different artists as a producer, composer/arranger and also scoring two films, (one a feature) and another one coming, so 8 would NOT be doing it for me.

I think it's how you work and what you need. It's a toolbox and there are a lot of tools to use. For me 10 is very cool indeed:) G

I have a 2.66 Mac Pro too with an 002r on Tiger.

Considering installing Snow Leopard and adding more RAM to get to PT 10.

Any recommendations? How much RAM can these 2.66 Mac Pros Handle?

Has anyone noticed how much faster it is opening sessions ? Even with DSP cache enabled for TDM users ?

Stunning isn't it ? Some of my old sessions on 9 would take 4 or 5 minutes when closing off one and then opening another one. (yes there were A LOT of plugins in them )
10 seems to be able to do a same in under a minute.

Sessions open way faster compared to 9, overall feeling is that my iMac can now handle heavier loads of plugs and instruments. Not a glitch, not a hang for a week, love it!

My favourite thing is how easily it can handle the huge sessions. Need more editing? No problem. Need more plugins? No problem. Need to record some stuff on top of it? No problem.

While pt9 would've stop working, pt10 happily do what we want! Gotta love that.
