A dream? A project for the DUC?
So, I have this idea…..
Maybe it’s a dream? I picture a full length album, with songs created by different folks, all inspired by one another’s work, each song intertwined and melded into the others It works something like this: Someone creates a song, then passes it on. Some else, inspired by this work, takes the song, and creates another song that is intended to rise up out of the beginning or end of the other song, sort of a cross fade, interwoven, Pink Floyd, full length deal. One song melds and becomes another, the album becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The obvious genre for this would be slightly atmospheric, but it could change into anything. Here’s a possible seed: http://www.valvebrothers.com/cabala/...s/frippant.mp3 Listen with headphones if you have a chance. This is the first tune I recorded when I first got my Digi 001 a few years back to test out its limits; just resurrected it for fun and thought it might spark a few ideas. Beware, its not like other things Ive posted….. Anyone interested? Damon |

Just like any compilation, each track would be the registered and copyrighted intellectual property of the whomever wrote it.

Hi Damon
is your idea to create something new based on the track you have posted or are you thinking you want to have people submit tracks that have been recorded already(that go with the vibe) that will just be strung together and intertwined? Either way it sounds like a challenging project. I'd be up for it crugie |

I listened to your "seed" track and have become interested. I think its a great idea and have always wanted to be a part of such a project. Please, add me to the list. I am good for a song.

Re: A dream? A project for the DUC?
Sounds good! Im glad to get some response. I was thinking this could go a couple of ways; my current thought is this:
Get a list of 8-10 people, or perhaps more, and pair folks up if we have lots more volunteers. Then set up a schedule, say give each team a month or so and run the project sort of like a relay: 1. Use my song as a seed (actually me and a friend) 2. Give the song to team 1, they write the next part of the song, morphing it into something new, so that it gradually fades/morphs, overlapping from my song into the new song, or vice versa; their song could come before mine and intertwine that way. 3. When they are done; give both songs (now really 1 song) to team 2. As far as logistics I think we could either post each song as its done (or anytime if you want people to review it) on my hotline or FTP server as 24 bit, stereo .sd2 files STUFFIT files. Or, we can additionally snail mail discs to one another if someone doesn’t have a broadband connection. Of course, post .mp3’s to the DUC to keep everyone up to date, or maybe create a “band” on MP3.com and put the tunes there. When done with a tune, everyone should also archive their sessions onto CD(s) and send them to a central producer. Probably me, but Im open to anything. Maybe for these archives, just create a new session with submixes, say with 4 stereo tracks; one for any rhythm elements, one for any melody elements, one for any atmospheric elements and one for any FX. That way, when the “producer” is mastering, they can work from something a little more flexible than a straight stereo file. Then, when its “done”, someone would take the whole project, polish it and master it. Does this sound workable? Damon |
