Shortcut for grabbing arranging items?
I hear alot of musicians saying that arranging in PTHD is great.
Ive just found the key command that while in Grid mode you can temprarily use "slip" by holding down alt key which is good.. Is there a similar way to get the "select items" tool? So if i want to move around 10-20 tracks by rubber banding them? in most DAW's the select/arrange tool is just a right click or left click and hold down while selecting - is there a quick way in PT so i dont have to select through the "smart tool" and back again to the selector tool? |

Probably the best option for you is to select the first track you want, then hold shift and select the last track you want and all tracks in between are selected. So you've just found the alt key might be a good time to start investigating the modifier keys? and oh um RTFM "read the free manual" Chris

Re: Shortcut for grabbing arranging items?
Just as I thought - no easy quick way of lassoing..
As for 261 posts and getting round to this, i thought I'd give PT a go at composition/arranging. Usually do this via Ableton or Logic and export finished tracks as an arrangement hence would never really move large amounts of data |

the benefit of the object grabber above the smart-tool is, that you can select individual regions within a timerange, and therefore it was the first thing I made after I switched to PT - to build a quickey for this, now I´m able to switch with a single shortcut immediatly between the smart-tool and the object grabber

I'd look into Region Groups. Using these, you can make the sections of your songs all into big "blobs" and move them around at will.

You make a selection, option-apple-g, fly to destination location, and optionally option-apple-u to ungroup the region. It rocks.

If you want to select a bunch of tracks really quickly, make sure the "Link Track and Edit Selection" button is active and swipe up/down to select the tracks you want. Genius and a real time saver.

Re: Shortcut for grabbing arranging items?
Unfortunately there is no other way to do the stuff the object-grabber can do. I wish there was an option to turn the grabber in the smart-tool into an object-grabber without leaving the smart-mode.
Selecting across tracks and region-groups will always include clips in between (that you might not want to select). They only way is the object-grabber to do this.

For example, inside a region group that you have copied to several places in the session, there is a fade missing. Ungroup on region group (option-command-u) make the change - in this case the fade - and then Regroup (option-command-r). Pro Tools will ask you whether you want a new copy or you want to modify all existing region groups. Time saver for replacing sounds, eg. Tim |
