Quick question; which is the best anti-virus software these days?

Just my opinion, but if you need any protection on your PT PC rig beyond MSE then you're asking for trouble.

Yea I was just curious as to what audio people are using for their PC's.

I've only used Mac's, but I want to build my own PC and I'm not sure what to get for Anti Virus and such.

I only use a firewall for Mac. For audio PC's, basically you don't wanna be doing anything that an effective light weight virus program like MSE can't handle. After all, are we making music or chatting on myspace and playing facebook games? Updating software, occasional biz email checks, and ftp uploading and downloading is the most internet action my PT PC's get. Some people don't even do that on their PT PC.

I know it's best to keep the rig as clean as possible, however... as a hobbyist I do music productions as wel as video productions, browse the internet, watch youtube etc and once a while (I'm talking like maybe once a month..where do I find the time) play a game, all on the same rig. I use Symantec firewall and antivirus and I do have to say never had any troubles what so ever because of that. I never download any stuff for tries or anything because that for sure messes up quite a lot. I also tuned everything to the max for PT. So if it's a hobby and being carefull what you do, it's probably no harm to have such a software installed and running, at least in my case.

MSE on my DAW and NIS on my main internet desktop. I haven't had a PT conflict with either program. NIS is perhaps overkill for a DAW.

MSE on my Pro Tools laptop - which also runs Live, Torq and a few other goodies.
No AV on my main rig, its never been on the internet.
However I do boot to a second C: on my main rig for Photoshop, Premiere, Visual Studio, Web Dev tools, etc - I use MSE on that. And a third C: for Internet and WoW when I can't use my game pc upstairs cos of flatmates - MSE again.

Mike.

I wouldn't go with Microsoft antivirus personnaly.

I think Eset Smart Security is the fastest and safest Anti-virus/Firewall.

Avast (Free) and Kaspersky either AV or IS. light on system, no issues with pro tools, good protection as well.
