Default Re: 100baseT networks... Mac/PT + Pentium ?

don't know about ethernet, but i'd been tranferring files fr acid on pc to pt on mac in the following way.

1) bounce (mix to new track) each track to .wav on acid. make sure u bounce fr the start to the end of the song.

2) save all the wav files to a mac hd...i use conversion plus to mount mac hd on pc.

3) convert and import all the wav files into pt. it takes ages to do 'tweak ahead' setting...i found peak 2.1 is faster to do the conversion...don't know about barbarbatch or an any other prog.

that's the way i'm doing it...if anyone knows of any other way, plz share ur experience. thx

Default 100baseT networks... Mac/PT + Pentium ?

I have some friends using Acid who have asked me if I can Ethernet my PT rig to their Pentium so that we can work in PT and Acid side-by-side, sharing files and screens.

I've never done anything with Ethernet and know nothing about it.

If you use PT on a network, esp. with PCs as well as other Macs on the net', I'd like to find out how easy or hard that is...

Please reply via email
as well as in the forum.

Thanks,

steveV

thefly:

Thanks! That's the method I had envisioned, except I thought that I might be able to do it all wired together...

What's "conversion plus" ?

Rail:

Thanks for the ref, I'll go and have a look!

Conversions Plus is a utility program available from http://www.dataviz.com/ which lets you open Mac files on your Wintel machine. I should have mentioned that I also use this in conjunction with DAVE.

we do exactly what you are trying to do.
We utilize the following configuration

1 pentium running a number of PC apps.( acid, cakewalk, etc)
1 NT Server pc to tie the studio together.
a couple of laptop PCs that we move around to and from the console and edit space etc.
3 MAcs with protools/ CD cutting sw etc.

simply implement NT . set up your NT server for Mac clients. Create a partition for MAC based file system. Serve the Mac partitions to Appletalk.

Now ig you have all your systems on a single enthernet 10/100 hub, when you open appletalk you will see the other macs and NT server. Select the Server and the mac partition(s) will show up. Select the partition you need and it will open on your mac desktop. You can now copy files to and from MACs and PCs at will. Works like a champ.

IF you need help setting this up feel free to e-mail us and we'll help you set it up.

I'm interested in 100/base T'ing two macs together, one contains a Mixplus system...are there any particular 100 base T cards that I should get for good compatibility, and are there any to shy away from?
