Re: AIFF files for Avid
It has to do with the header information that ProTools puts on the AIFF. Some programs, especially older programs won't recognize the files as being valid file types. To be safe we will use a program like SoundApp to convert them after we bounce to disk. Yes, it's a pain, but at least we don't have clients calling back saying they can't read our files.

Re: AIFF files for Avid
Snoozie; does this apply for importing PT AIFFs into an Avid? We did send them as interleaved files, so maybe we should send as split mono files?
Thanks.

AIFF files for Avid
We're running a PT 5.3.1 HD system. We exported (bounced to disk) our music files to an interleaved AIFF file (48k 16 bit) for the video editor to cut to on his Avid. When he received the files he couldn't read our AIFF files. He had to use another program to convert them to his usual AIFF file program. What did we do wrong? Are there different types of AIFF?
Thanks.

Re: AIFF files for Avid
A video editor once told me interleaved files mess it up for them. (this wasn't Avid) From there on out I deliver dual mono, unless they specificlly ask for interleaved. Lately I've been delivering in QT (interleaved audio for FCP)
Hope this helps...not sure if I even answered the question. |

Re: AIFF files for Avid
I'm not sure about the interleaved files. I don't think we've ever had a problem with that. Our only problem is that they can't read the AIFF or WAV that is spit directly out of Protools. But if we reconvert it with another program, then it's usually fine, mono or stereo.
We're usuing PT 5.3.1 TDM by the way. |

Re: AIFF files for Avid
We regularly export aif and sd2 interleaved to our Media Composer and Symphony editors with no issues. In fact, they prefer the interleaved files, so the only have to line up once instead of twice.

Re: AIFF files for Avid
I've been sending out exported (command-shift-k)aiff (and .wav too) files, most interleaved stereo with a few mono, to various versions of Avid, DV Express, Symphony, FCP, Discrete Logic, Nuendo, for a number of years and I do not recall a single problem anything like what is talked about here.

Re: AIFF files for Avid
We too have been sending out interleaved AIFF files for years with no problem. We have an Avid Media Composer 9000 here and it takes the files right from our ProTools rooms. We are using v7.2 of the Media Composer software, maybe it's a problem with the newer Symphony's?
