Default NTFS names corrupting Plug-Ins

I have re-installed Pro Tools on a new computer. When I open the program I get a prompt the Reads:

WARNING
Loss of Plug-In authorization keys may occur.

This system contains one or more drive(s) formatted with NTFS, which have volume names longer than 11 characters. This combination is known to corrupt some InterLok Plug-In authorizations. If you know which drives are authorized and they are not configured this way, or if you have no InterLok protected plug-ins, then you may continue. In order to remedy this issue before corruption can occur click "Yes" to quit Pro Tools and rename NTFS volumes to names that are 11 characters or less. Next relaunch Pro Tools and this dialog should not appear.

Wondering if anyone knows what and how I can remedy this?

Thank you - Robert

Default Re: NTFS names corrupting Plug-Ins

One or more of your drives has a name longer than 11 characters. Rename the drive or drives so each name is 11 characters or less. NOTE: a space is considered a character.

For Example: a name like Pro Tools 12 Sessions is 21 characters long and will produce the error you're seeing. A name like PT 12 Audio is 11 characters long as is PT Sessions and should not induce the error.

Cheers,

I've been getting the same warning dialog since I installed a new hard drive. I didn't understand the explanation in the warning until now. Thanks to The Weed.
